12-Step Recovery – A twelve-step program is a set of guiding principles outlining a course of action for recovery from addiction, compulsion, or other behavioral problems.
ACT – Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is an action-oriented approach to psychotherapy that creates a positive spiral where feeling better leads to a better understanding of the truth.
BASICS – Brief Alcohol and Screening and Intervention for College Students. Students examine their personal behaviors relating to drug and alcohol abuse in a judgment-free environment. Colleen educates students who want to understand the risks of their lifestyle, and also works with those who have been mandated to complete BASICS after a violation of school policy.
DBT – Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (mindfulness) was developed to help people cope with extreme or unstable emotions and harmful behaviors. DBT is an evidence-based approach to help people regulate emotions.
MAT – Medication-Assisted Treatment is strategy for combating alcohol or drug addiction that combines behavioral counseling with certain prescription medications. These drugs are given to ease symptoms of alcohol or drug withdrawal– anxiety, insomnia, depression, etc.
Motivational Interviewing – A psychotherapeutic approach that attempts to move an individual away from a state of indecision or uncertainty and towards finding the motivation to make positive decisions and accomplish established goals.
SMART Recovery® The SMART (Self Management And Recovery Training) approach offers a 4-point system to help individuals gain independence from addiction (substances or activities). This secular, science-based system uses cognitive behavioral therapy and non-confrontational motivational methods.
