Counseling
I specialize in alcohol and drug counseling, treating behavioral addictions, and finding recovery solutions for my clients.
CRISIS COUNSELING – I am a trained crisis counselor. Crisis situations are time-sensitive, often requiring immediate attention and action. Families may be emotional, fearful, and often ill-equipped to understand the best thing to do in an unfamiliar landscape. In situations like these, I can offer expertise, perspective, and a calming presence.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE – I am a CADC-II Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. My standard services consist of an intake session to assess personal needs and goals. Subsequent individual counseling sessions or family counseling sessions are recommended to discuss progress and support for additional steps toward recovery. Phone sessions are available for immediate support and information, but face-to-face appointments are preferred. From my work in the field, I am equipped to assist any individual at any level of need.
CO-OCCURRING DISORDERS & BEHAVIORAL DISORDERS – I have extensive experience providing assessments and counseling for those with co-occurring mental, behavioral, and substance abuse disorders.
Multiple emotional disorders and behavioral disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), conduct disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and panic disorder can overlap – hence the term co-occurring.
Mental disorders that commonly co-occur with substance use include mood-related disorders such as major depression and bipolar disorder. Anxiety-related disorders that often co-occur include social anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
The term behavioral disorder is used in a very general sense to cover a wide range of disorders or syndromes. Any persistent and repetitive pattern of behavior that is in conflict with societal norms or rules seriously impairs a person’s functioning, or creates distress in others is called a behavioral disorder.
Behavioral symptoms may involve:
- Inattention
- Hyperactivity
- Impulsivity
- Defiant behavior
- Drug use
- Criminal activity
- Video gaming addiction
If you or a loved one is experiencing these symptoms to the degree their life is impacted, please reach out for support.
Interventions & Transports
Carefully planned and executed interventions can be the key to unlocking the door to recovery. A well-designed intervention can ultimately save the life of your loved one. This involves disrupting an individual’s destructive behaviors by introducing an alternative path, and encouraging them to receive treatment.
Accepting help, or at least being exposed to it, is a breakthrough event that initiates healing for the entire family. It’s important to understand that an intervention is a process, not an event. Once a treatment plan has been agreed upon that best serves the individual and the family unit, the recovery work begins.
Counseling and intervention go hand in hand. I am a Certified Intervention Professional (CIP), who provides education, direction, and training for those in need.
If removal from the home environment is necessary for a successful intervention, I provide research and coordinate visits to treatment facilities that best fit the needs of each client. My team can also provide safe transport if necessary. In critical situations, you can count on fast, expert help.
Navigating the medical and educational recovery systems is challenging. During initial placement and throughout, I will guide you on how to best support yourself and your loved one, and advocate for your family every step of the way.
Transitions
AFTER-CARE MANAGEMENT is the collaborative process of assessment, planning, facilitation, and coordinating the continuation of care for clients who are stabilized and ready to rebuild their lives.
Residential facilities are in the stabilization phase of recovery. In most cases, ongoing support, therapy, and resources are necessary for the transition and reintegration into a new life. I support families during this phase of the journey as well.
- Assessment & creation of an after-care plan that considers viable options for every level of care (in coordination with a clinical team).
- Individualized treatment modalities and referrals for recovery-related activities such as 12 Step meetings and community support groups, as well as treatment teams that may include counseling, therapy, psychiatry, medical appointments, and outpatient programs.
- Coordination of individual support services:
– Randomized drug testing and monitoring
– Relapse plan
– Vocational coaching, budgeting, and money management
